PRACTICE 5. CPR AND HEIMLICH MANEOVER

During our 5th practice of lab we learned how to help someone in case of emergency and safe his/her life either by the process of CPR or by the Heimlich maneover.
We demonstraeted with some videos how we practiced it. We applied it on both humans and toys.

Here we can see the CPR cycle. It consists on first checking out if the pacient is conscious or not. We will check it by his/her senses and depending on how his body responds. In case the person does not breath we either should ask for help or apply the Cpr.  It will consist on 30 chest compresions and 2 rescue breaths.  In case of being a baby, such as the one in the video, before we will have to do 5 insuflations, covering the baby's mouth ans nose.

Heimlich maneover process: Abdominal thrusts above belly bottom, 5 back flows so the person can get to cough, breath and become conscious or not and chock. In case of a baby, we should do 5 back flows, 5 chest compressions with 2 fingers, all upside down. With this we get conscious chocking so the person gets better.

LAB DAY 4: HEART AND LUNGS DISSECTION

During day 4, we learned the procedure of how to study the anatomy of the lungs and heart of an animal( pig, cow) and did the dissection of it. Firstly, we had to see the lungs and trachea, then the external streucturw of the heart, the internal anatomy, and answer some questiobs which u will leave under answered in some videos and pictures explaining everything. The lab experiment was in partners. I appear here with my partner!

TASK TO DO: INTERVIEW OF OUR THEME

During the last weeeks, on the biology lab we have been doing a task which was asssigned to each of us, which was to choose a main theme, and make questions by interviewing people and recording the answers by audio, and after writing down the results, so in a future we can make a project, which will consist of a poster talking of what we have chosen, and making some graphics showing our results.

LAB DAY 3. TESTING HAM'S STARCH

During our third day of biology lab, we did an experiment which consisted on testing how much starch had  each of the pieces of ham given. We had 3 different types of ham: cocido, bienestar, and york. So to see if each one had starch, we dropped some iodine( which can be found in betadine) and tested it on each one, and if we mixed the iodine with starch, it turned black.  We know that starch is a complex carbohydrate, meaning it  can not be broken down into simpler, smaller molecules. But ham doesnt have starch, as it is a protein, right?! So lets see if it really seems what you think!  Here i put some pictures to check it out!

here as we can see, when we dropped the iodine on the ham( cocido) the spot expanded a litte bit.

on the bienestar, there was a little spot, and it had no changes.

But here is the big deal!! Wih the york, the spot went inside and got black! Sooo.... That means IT HAS STARCH!!!!👏

Here we have the Ham's food label, but if you look at it, and search for the ingredients, as we can see there is no potatoe in it, so it gives us a clue that it doesn't have starch! Always look carefully and with attention!!

LAB DAY 2. TISSUES UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

During our second day of biology lab, we looked at different  types of cells through  the microscope and wrote how much it magnified on the image. Here i post some pictures we took to the cells in order to identify each and draw them,as it was our task during the class

                                    1- ADIPOSE TISSUE ( CONNECTIVE)

2- MUSCLE STRIATED TISSUE

3- NERVOUS TISSUE

BIOLOGY LAB DAY 1.GUMMY BEAR OSMOSIS

During this day, we saw how the process of osmosis works and learned about its charactersitcs and functions, by trying it on gummy bears, and after watching this experiment we wrote our own hypothesis and discovering its effects.
The results were a few different ones:

The transparent gummy bear: it became larger and bigger due to its absortion of water molecules, related to the process of osmosis, as is the diffusion of water molecules across a cell.

The red gummy bear: it became smaller and less softer, as it was with salt water, which made it lose its inical particles and less yummy :)

The yellow gummy bear: it stayed the same way, and did not have any effect on it.

INTRODUCTION TO BIOLOGY AND GEOLOGY:

Hey, my name is Mariam and i will like to welcome you to my biology and geology section, where i will be posting all the things we doi n the signature of biology and geology, during our classes and also many experiments which have been done by me and my classmates in the lab during a few days.

PRACTICE 7. HUMAN SENSES

During our last practice of lab this year, we did an experiment detecting the different human senses. We had to do some as taping our nose a...
